My name is Jay Janarthanan. I have been a software developer for all most 20 years and will never trade it for anything else. My work concentrates on C# and Microsoft stack and I work from my home office in Troy, MI, except when I am on site with clients which is most of the time. If you have seen the movie Up In the Air then you will understand my life.
My passion is to discover the secrets of productivity for software developers. How does someone become what others would call a “10x developer” or a “rock star”? I spend a lot of time researching this topic, and I started this blog to share with others what I have learned. I am also working on a book on the same subject.
For the first half of my career I was a Java programmer, but for the past 10 years I have worked on C#. Even though most of my time is spent managing and mentoring other developers, architeting new systems, I still code, and what I love best is to take a product from concept to production.

Working with me
I am always interested in new projects, though I tend to be highly selective. I look for five key conditions for new client relationships:
- You need a product that is developed on the Microsoft Stack using C# / Java
- You understand or are willing to learn about Lean Software Development, Test Driven Development and Joel Test.
- I prefer End to end, concept to delivery projects.
- I work on the project personally, preferably on site. I make this commitment to every project I take.
- I commit to seeing the project through from start to finish. I have never in my 20-year career quit a project in the middle, regardless of the difficulty.
Personal Life
I lead a minimalist Zen lifestyle. I have a passion for Yoga, Meditation, Ethnic food, and pretend to be Tony Bourdain on the Travel Channel. I love International films with English subtitles, and music by Tiesto. I am a gadget freak and I worship Steve Jobs
